Finscan
Complete analysis of sawn timber features
Finscan is the board scanner which sets the standard for sawmill scanners with the latest graphic cards and computers, redesigned LED lights and customised industrial cameras.
Finscan is a combination of the most advanced electronics and hardware and the best AI software. The Finscan will grade the sawn lumber accurately and consistently with proven value yield of over 96% at a speed of up to 240 boards per minute. While technically simple and easy to maintain, Finscan’s performance is now better than ever before.
Every new Finscan system is operated by Buzzard® artificial intelligence with defect detection. Due to the solution, the system detects defects like knots and rot with great accuracy and reduces ghost detection by more than 90%. Buzzard® artificial intelligence is continuously trained by our labelling team for constantly evolving defect detection, analysis and accuracy.
The Finscan system can be used for both green sorting and final sorting. The system is very user-friendly, with an intuitive interface and a comprehensive web report. In addition, it includes several special software modules for the analysis of the raw material, for remanufacturing products and for the end use of boards. Finscan is certified for strength grading according to the EN14081-2 standard.
Finscan optimises and grades boards according to the given quality rules and provides accurate information for board trimming and sorting. Every board is measured on all four sides and from 10 different directions in total. The new way of scanning ensures a full analysis of the features and defects of sawn timber where, for example, warp deformations and cracks can be analysed even more precisely.
The system has an HD user interface that is available in various languages, while the operator terminals range from mobile phones and handy pads to computer screens measuring up to 42”. Finscan has comprehensive graphic reporting tools for operators, production planners and senior management.

Finscan scanner upgrades
Upgrades on the HDL model are also available for older scanner models.
Many improvements have been made in image-handling and optimisation as well as usability on the HDL version. Older versions can easily be upgraded to a newer one during a computer changeover. All old computers can be replaced with one new and effective computer. After the upgrade and the replacement of old computers, it is possible to monitor the system’s grading from mobile devices like a tablet or smartphone. A large 42” screen can be placed next to the grading line in order to make the grading information even more clearly visible to the operators.
Image-handling can be considerably improved by changing a few electronics cards and outdated cameras, where necessary. Fluorescent lights can be replaced with long-lasting LED light beams, which save energy and reduce maintenance costs.
